Employee Spotlights

What do our employees have to say about working for Talbert House?

Talbert House Primary Care

“Being able to provide primary care services to my patients is what motivates me each day. I feel like I make a difference, a positive difference. My clients are often living with a substance use disorder or mental health challenges and are fearful to address their primary care needs. I work to make that transition to a healthy lifestyle more approachable for my patients and walk them through every step.

At Talbert House I am able to work directly with clients each day in addressing their health needs. I am now seeing patients at the Talbert House Mt. Orab building. It’s great to work in a new building with plenty of space and lots of other providers so we can collaborate on treatment plans for each client and better treat their needs.

I have patients who have been seeing me for years. I know them and am invested in their success. Working at Talbert House gives me an opportunity to improve the health of my patients and know I make a difference in their lives.”

Pam McClain Scholar

"My journey with Talbert House began in 2003 working with adolescents. Over the years I grew curious and eager to learn about different roles within the agency so I could better assist the individuals we serve. In 2008, I transitioned to the Finance department after receiving my coding and billing certification. In 2018, I was giving the amazing opportunity as Operation Lead to help launch a new service site, the Engagement Center. In 2019, I joined the Jail-based treatment team as the Operations Supervisor.

Obtaining my degree was not just for me - it was for my children, my support system and the clients we serve. Being educated and skilled to address the needs of our community is the best tool a person can have! I’ve experienced many changes within the agency but two components have never changed: the agency’s strong passion to help our clients succeed and providing staff members with the tools they need to succeed. I am honored to be a Pam McClain scholar and a part of an amazing team."

Mental Health

“I started as an admin in the Wilmington office in July 2018 while I worked to get my Bachelor’s in social work. Once I completed my degree I tested for and obtained my LSW and began the transition from administrative specialist to Clinical Counselor at the three Warren County Outpatient sites, Franklin, Lebanon, and Wilmington.

I enjoy working at Talbert House because it feels like the people have a real passion for this population. We have such a high need for services in this area for substance use and mental health that it feels great to be a part of an agency that feels like it cares all the way from the CEO reaching out in person to help and to the clinicians, case workers, and administrative staff with their “boots on the ground” to help each client get the help that they need."

25 Years Tenure

"Absolutely the most satisfying thing about my work at Talbert House is when I experience clients making changes and moving onto constructive lives. Since I work exclusively with clients who have experienced extreme trauma it is their progress and the challenges presented by their experiences that keeps me coming to work. [As well as], the support I have had [at Talbert House] and the ability to do what I know is clinically and ethically the thing to do regarding my clients."

Advice: "Be sure to have good supervision and support, read all the books you can about the work you are doing, ask questions, do not be afraid to tell a client you may be wrong, and allow yourself time to debrief and do other activities to prevent burn out."

Joan Van Epps, Clinical Lead
